WAC Program - Join

We encourage interested students and instructors to join the program. Becoming a Writing Fellow or tutor is great training for graduate school and many professions (especially English majors). Students should be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors with excellent writing and interpersonal skills. Instructors should be willing to try writing-to-learn activities in their classrooms, willing to make minor changes to their syllabi and assignments to accommodate the use of Writing Fellows, and committed to improving student writing in all disciplines. Find out more about getting involved by following the links below.

Details of Student Involvement

To become involved in Writing Across the Curriculum as a Writing Fellow, English Technology Fellow, or Writing Center Tutor, students must complete an application process to request permission to enroll in the training course, English 383: Composition Theory and Pedagogy.

The application process includes the following:

  • Contact assistant director Lee Carleton;
  • Provide a writing sample of at least three pages that illustrates one's best writing;
  • Request a professor's letter of recommendation.

If accepted into the program, students will be given departmental permission to enroll in English 383. Becoming a fully active participant in WAC as a Writing Fellow or Writing Center Tutor is contingent upon successfully completing the required training course and upon personal approval from the instructor of the course.

Details of Faculty Involvement
